Senator Ross Fitzpatrick purchased the Greta Ranch property back in 1994 and transformed the former Peach Orchard into a vineyard by planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. Fitzpatrick Vineyards is now producing some of the best sparkling wine in the valley. If you get a chance, take a tour of their underground wine cave and their state-of-the-art wine making equipment, like their automated Riddling Rack. If you are traveling down south, this is a great first stop on your wine touring route!

8th Generation’s story starts back in 1783 when the family planted their first grapes in Germany. The passion for great winemaking has now past through 8 Generations and was brought to the Okanagan Valley in 2003. Owners Bernd & Stefanie Schales, are involved in every step of the winemaking process and are producing a great portfolio of delicious wines.

The newly renovated wineshop was formerly a 1940’s farmhouse. Make sure to snap a picture or two in their miniature train before or after your tasting.

Honouring the history of Summerland’s “Dirty Little Secret”, Dirty Laundry is one of the most visited tourist spots in Summerland. Enjoy your tasting inside the wineshop area, or outside on the vine-covered patio. You can also enjoy Dirty Laundry’s craft beer at the Bottoms Up Saloon or a delicious pizza from their Red Iron Grill. Make sure you give yourself extra time to shop – the wineshop is full of fun wine-related items, and the Gelato is to die for.

You can see the Kettle Valley Steam Train pass by the winery during the summer season if you time it right.

Following the winding road through the vineyards and orchards of Summerland is the cool, industrial modern-looking, state of the art winery – Crush Pad. Enjoy your tastings in the heart of the production area, surrounded by the towering concrete tanks, clay amphorae, and large format neutral oak casks. Along with their own lines of wine (Free Form, Haywire, Narrative and Bizou + Yukon), Crush Pad also creates custom wines for other wineries and their Narrative Gin.

Their latest brand, Bizou + Yukon is named after the two Great Pyrenees dogs that guard the flock of sheep at The Ranch.

Lunessence is located in the Heart of Bottleneck Drive and is a small family Estate winery boasting a stunning lake view. You can enjoy your tasting in the charming wineshop or outdoors on their patio where it’s not uncommon to be serenaded by local musicians. Their portfolio of wines include Sparkling and Late Harvest in addition to their quality white and red wines.

Nestled on the southern slopes of Little Giant’s Head Mountain (an extinct volcano), this small, family run Estate Winery is a favourite of locals and visitors alike. Thronhaven was started in 1999 and it hosts 18.5 acres of vines and produce 5,000 cases of wine per year. The tasting and production area is housed in a quaint Southwestern styled building.

A boutique winery with a tumultuous past, Back Door Winery lies in the heart of Summerland. Owner Pieter and his dedicated feather-friend, the crow, have transformed the winery from once untamed vines to now producing a great offering of white, rosé, red and dessert wines. Their patio hosts local musical entertainment throughout the summer – dancing shoes are welcomed.
Did You Know?
The Winery sat abandoned for 7 years before new owner Pieter Smits revived it. His friends and family were perplexed by the purchase as they thought the only valuable thing about the property was “the back door”.
